A year of shipping Lyncost alone

A year ago Lyncost was a spreadsheet I was tired of maintaining and a rough idea that offline-first personal finance software shouldn't be this hard to find. Today it's a shipped desktop app with a small, genuinely engaged user base, and I've learned more about support tickets than I expected to.

The biggest surprise wasn't technical. It was how much of the work is unglamorous maintenance — answering the same three questions politely for the fortieth time, triaging a bug report that turns out to be a locale-specific date-parsing issue, writing documentation nobody reads until they desperately need it. None of that shows up in a roadmap.

What I'd tell myself a year ago: ship smaller, ship sooner, and don't wait for the app to feel 'finished' before letting real people use it — the gap between what you think users need and what they actually ask for is bigger than you expect, and you only close it by shipping.

WinterShogun Tech exists because Lyncost worked well enough to justify building more apps the same way. That's a quieter milestone than a funding round, but it's the one that actually matters to me.
