The craft of omotenashi
Hospitality that anticipates a need before it's spoken — and what it means for support.
Omotenashi (おもてなし) is usually translated as 'hospitality,' but the word implies something more specific: anticipating a guest's needs before they have to ask, without expecting anything in return.
You feel it in small, unannounced things — a ryokan host who's already prepared your room at exactly the temperature you'd want without being told, a shopkeeper who wraps a fragile item without you mentioning it's fragile.
It's a useful standard for support tickets, too. The best answer to 'how do I export my data' isn't a link to documentation — it's noticing, from the question, that the export format probably needs fixing.
